- Ohio is 117th out of 120 FBS teams in Red Zone touchdown percentage at 31% (4 TDs in 13 trips inside the 20). Remember, Ohio was 118th last season at a 40% clip. UT held the Green and White out of the end zone four of five times inside the 20 yard line.

- If there is a weak point on the ‘Cats offensive line, it has been at left guard, where Vince Carlotta has struggled at time. Carlotta, C David White and LT Chris Rodgers took all 73 snaps last game, and of the seven linemen who played, Carlotta graded out the worst. He also committed three of Ohio’s four penalties in the UT game.

- More offensive line talk. It seems Ohio really has not decided on a right tackle yet between Cole Bunner and Joe Flading. In week one, Flading got 66% of the snaps. In week two, Bunner took 65%. Against Cal Poly, the two essentially split reps (33 snaps for Flading, 27 for Bunner). Last week at the Vols, Bunner was at right tackle for 60 of 73 plays. We’ll have to wait and see if that trend continues or if Bunner has emerged as the number one.

- In case you are wondering, White has been Ohio’s best lineman this season, with 14.5 pancakes.

- Here’s an article on Ohio linebacker Lee Renfro and his homecoming trip of sorts when Ohio traveled to Knoxville last week. A total of 21 friends, family and former coaches were inside Neyland Stadium Saturday night to root for Renfro.

- Bowling Green gunslinger Tyler Sheehan is the best quarterback Ohio will face this season. Think about that. Ohio had to line up against Dan LeFevour, Tim Hiller and Drew Willy alone last fall.

- The ‘Cats are the only FBS team in the nation to not have a rushing touchdown.

- Ohio has not won consecutive games at Bowling Green since 1978 and 1980.

- Gridiron Glory host Garrett Downing has a blog on The Athens News website. It is good material for local high school football fans.

- How bout some volleyball love? Ellen Herman is 20 kills away from tying the all-time kills record at Ohio University, a mark she will in all likelihood break this weekend in roads games at Akron Friday then Buffalo Saturday.

- Just a few quick notes from Frank Solich’s first afternoon press conference:

- QB Theo Scott will start, but Solich promised snaps to both Scott and QB Boo Jackson against UConn.

- In terms of injuries, WR Taylor Price has been back at practice and will start Saturday. OL Eric Herman has returned as well, and will split reps with John Flowers at right guard. Conor Reilly has not practiced recently and is questionable for week one.

- LB Brandon Weaver will see a specialist today to determine his future this season. He has missed all of fall camp with an unknown injury.

- Among the first-year players Solich confirmed will play this season: WR Gary Fortune, DT Carl Jones, LB Jelani Woseley, WR Jerry Gross (jr.), LT Jonathan Lechner, and C Skyler Allen. OL Kadre Pinder could as well.

- Solich hinted Fortune could see action as a punt returner. He is super quick and will be fun to watch for the next four years.

- On the depth chart only David White at center and Chris Rodgers at left tackle are listed as sure-fire starters, and even Solich admitted true freshman Lechner could gets some reps at LT. This O-line is young and will be a work in progress for the first month of the season. Eight or nine guys could receive snaps in game one. Solich is excited about the talent level of the O-line as a whole, but there is so much youth that it is a concern as well.

- More tonight on “The Sears Sports Fan” from 6-6:40 on 970 WATH-AM. After that, switch it on over to Power 105.5-FM for The Frank Solich show from 7-8.

- An update on former Ohio recruit Kyryl Natyazhko via Jeff Goodman.

- Ohio Assistant Director of Media Relations Cory Walton has accepted the same position at Purdue. He will be responsible for Boilermakers men’s basketball and men’s golf. Walton covered men’s basketball and volleyball among other teams while here in Athens.

- Ohio Associate A.D./Program Advancement Chris Delisio is heading to Ohio State for a position on the academic side for OSU.

- Ohio redshirt freshman linebacker Alphonso Lewis will be suspended for the ‘Cats opener against Connecticut after being found guilty of criminal trespassing misdemeanor. He will pay a $100 fine and perform 10 hours of community service.

- Thus far, I have Bobcat football fans traveling in from Orlando, Boston and Atlanta for the UConn game.

- “The Jim Schaus Show on the Sears Sports Fan” begins another year in 2009-10 this Thursday. Jim and I have a ton to catch up on, and we’ll share an interview with volleyball coach Ryan Theis before the Lady ‘Cats open the year on Friday up in Wisconsin.

- Speaking of the volleyball team, a short stop in Chicago to see Katie Post’s family is on the agenda on the way up to Madison. Later, the ladies will check in with Jane Sytsma’s family in Madison as well. This trip sounds like it will be a great bonding experience for the squad.

- As announced on OhioBobcats.com earlier this week, we are excited at Power 105 to have both The Frank Solich Show and The John Groce Show back on the flagship station of Bobcat athletics. The Semeka Randall Show will continue on sister-station 970 WATH.

- Bobcat football is holding its last two-a-day of fall camp today. The second practice was initially scheduled for this afternoon but will take place tonight under the lights at Peden Stadium.

- You have to feel for Buffalo tailback James Starks. But keep in mind, back-up running back Brandon Thermilus has been solid throughout his tenure at UB. And first-year starter Zack Maynard is a true dual-threat quarterback. Starks is obviously a huge loss, but it’d be a mistake to completely rule out the running game for the defending MAC champs.

- The Voice of the ‘Cats Russ Eisenstein tells Brian Boesch last night on “The Sears Sports Fan” the “What are They Wearing?” segment on Bobcat radio broadcasts will be sponsored this year. Click here to listen to the entire interview.
